Virtual Therapy
Virtual Therapy WITH THE RELATIONSHIP RESOURCE
Online therapy sessions now make it possible to access therapy services with ease from the solace of your home.
Teletherapy is a convenient way for residents of Alberta to access therapy services without having to physically come into my office in Calgary, Alberta. I offer secure confidential video-based teletherapy options for clients who are located in Alberta, Canada. The video platform I use is Jane App which provides a fully integrated telehealth option with built in essential security measures to meet compliance standards.
Many people find video-based therapy to be an effective method of treatment. While some communication cues may be lost in teletherapy (e.g. body language) with intentional check-ins, therapists and clients are typically able to communicate in effective and productive ways via online therapy. If you are scheduling virtual couples therapy, I typically suggest that both partners be in the same space for their couples therapy sessions. When partners join the session from two different locations, the effectiveness of the session can be diminished.

Things to note…
For your virtual sessions, please ensure that you have access to reliable internet connection and a device that has a functional webcam and microphone. **Note, if you are using a laptop or desktop computer, Chrome works best for Jane App. However, if you are using an iphone or ipad for our session, Safari browser is recommended.
When meeting for online therapy, it is Ideal for you to have access to a private space where you won’t feel concerned about being overheard or interrupted. If it is difficult to find a private space at home, some people have chosen to do teletherapy from their parked car (not while driving!). If you are concerned about someone overhearing you, a white noise machine or app, along with headphones/earbuds can be helpful ways to maximize privacy. Please allow yourself to be comfortable for your therapy session e.g. it is easier to be comfortable if you do not have to hold your device in your hand. A desktop or laptop computer or a tablet may be more comfortable to use than a smartphone.
If we have trouble with the internet connection during our session, or if connection drops, please reconnect as soon as you can. If we are unable to reconnect, I will reach out to you by phone at the number I have on file.
